This is a pic of my window cleaner. Made w/vinegar and alcohol. I was going to put in ammonia but for right now I am trying it w/just the vinegar. They say that if you have used the commercial cleaners then you might have a soapy film to it so wait until you have all of that off and then add ammonia to your stuff. So I am doing this first just in case. I just don't want the streaks to show up and get frustrated w/my new solution.
I was also given the tip to let your newspapers be a week old before using them on cleaning your windows b/c there may still be wet ink on them and it can also smear your windows.
So here is the exact recipes I have.
Homemade glass cleaner recipe
2 cups of water
½ cup white (clear) or cider vinegar
¼ cup rubbing alcohol (the 70% concentration type)
Mix these ingredients and store in a spray bottle*. Spray on paper towel or a cloth first and then wipe glass/mirror.
*Spray bottles can be found at your local Dollar store or discounter. Be sure to use a permanent marker or else write on masking tape and apply to bottle to identify what is in the bottle - not only that it's Glass Cleaner, but the ingredients, just in case of emergency.
Homemade Spray Cleaner Recipe
Mix in a sprayer bottle:
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup water
In the kitchen, use vinegar-and-water spray to clean counter tops, lightly soiled range surfaces and back splash areas.
In the bathroom, use vinegar spray cleaner to clean counter tops, floors, and exterior surfaces of the toilet.
For really tough bathroom surfaces such as shower walls, pump up the cleaning power by removing the sprayer element and heating the solution in the microwave until barely hot. Spray shower walls with the warmed generously, allow to stand for 10 to 15 minutes, then scrub and rinse. The heat helps soften stubborn soap scum and loosens hard water deposits.
On this last recipe I added more than a half and half ratio. We live out here in the country and I have well water and have extra, extra hard water. So I need the extra vinegar in my cleaner. Oh and I also used warm water to start w/so that my food color would mix well! I also have found other cleaner recipes which I'll post later but I need to get off here now! ;o)
